We are currently looking for a Senior Field Hydrogeologist to join our Water Resource Evaluation (WRE) department within Rio Tinto Iron Ore (RTIO), who will provide technical leadership and oversight to hydrogeological field investigations.

You will lead and guide a dedicated field-based team of hydrogeologists and technicians whose remit is to support the execution of hydrogeological field investigations. These works are integral to the ongoing management of water-related risk to our operations in the Pilbara and encompass a diverse array of activities spanning drilling, aquifer testing and groundwater monitoring.
Working an 8 days on, 6 days off roster, reporting to the Superintendent Field Hydrogeologist, you will:
- Recruit, coach and mentor a mid-size team of field hydrogeologists and technicians in their role to supervise the drilling, installation, aquifer testing and routine monitoring of water supply, dewatering and groundwater monitoring infrastructure;
- Provide active safety leadership and promote a positive and respective team culture to an established field-based team;
- Be accountable for driving best practice in technical hydrogeological data collection and management. Advocate adherence to scientific method in the execution of field investigations;
- Ensure the technical requirements specified in project scopes of works (SoW) are reviewed and technical intent clear through collaboration with other hydrogeologist teams;
- Work closely with contract partners and CMS representatives, providing regular constructive feedback.
What you’ll bring
- A minimum bachelor’s degree in a relevant Hydrogeology, Geoscience or Environmental field (post-graduate qualifications in hydrogeology will be considered favourably)
- Commitment to health, safety and environment. Promoting respectful behaviour and a supportive safety culture through visible leadership
- Be highly attuned to issues of hydrogeological data capture, quality control and data management
- Well-developed and mature project management approach. Prior experience leading a team will be considered favourably.
It will also be beneficial if you have:
- Membership of relevant professional societies (e.g. IAH)
- Understanding of WA regulatory environment applicable to water
