This is a 12 month fixed term contract opportunity,  the role supports the Strategy and Town Services Leadership team.  The role requires strong analytical support and a sophisticated ability to influence and drive change.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager Strategy & Town Services, In this role, you will:

  • Partner with stakeholders to proactively drive financial analysis and cost discipline and influence outcomes through providing a decision framework supported by insightful and accurate analysis.
  • Build rapport with a variety of stakeholders including functions and across Finance, Controllership, Treasury, Tax and Risk
  • Lead the development of rigorous planning and drive improved business performance through highly effective forward plans
  • Develop financial understanding and drive a step change in cost discipline and leadership across the cost centre owners in the areas you support
  • Provide business with relevant, detailed, accurate and timely financial analysis, studies and counsel to influence and shape financial strategy, analysis and market insight
  • Understand performance to identify improvement opportunities, and support the business in developing high value initiatives to optimize business outcomes
  • Leverage technology to provide insightful advice and identify new improvement opportunities and improve processes within the team and business
  • Ensure governance and compliance through effective application of financial controls and risk management

Specific Areas of Operation;

Weipa Town Authority

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaboration with the RTA finance team to develop and deliver accurate month end processes that meet the needs of both WTA and RTA. Noting that WTA and RTA operate across different systems
  • Oversee the timely and accurate preparation of month-end reporting. Review the preparation of Accrual due by COB WD-2; and Actuals.
  • Oversee and assist with the preparation and review of the annual financial reports.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, internal controls, accounting standards and company policies.
  • Collaborate with auditors and regulatory bodies during audit and reviews. Provide team with guidance around additional controls and process changes to correct any arising recommendations from reviews.
  • Support teams in recognising and evaluating the financial impact of business activities and projects.
  • Identify and analyse opportunities for process enhancements and cost optimisation within teams
  • Assis with budgeting, forecasting and forward planning
  • Provide guidance around Capital Projects
  • Guide and support Supervisors in developing stronger financial knowledge and skills

Cape Kids Childcare Centre

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaboration with the RTA finance team to develop and deliver accurate month end processes that meet the needs of both Cape Kids and RTA. Noting the role of the Maxxia and Centre link related funding.
  • Support and advise on the timely and accurate preparation of month-end reporting. Review the preparation of Accrual due by COB WD-2; and Actuals.
  • Oversee and assist with the preparation and review of the annual financial reports.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, internal controls, accounting standards and company policies.
  • Support the debt management processes
  • Develop a sound understanding of the childcare subsidy process
  • Collaborate with auditors and regulatory bodies during audit and reviews on matters of financial management of the centre. Provide team with guidance around additional controls and process changes to correct any arising recommendations from reviews. Noting that support obligations do to extend to non financial matters associated with the Centre operations.
  • Identify and analyses opportunities for process enhancements and cost optimization within teams
  • Assis with budgeting, forecasting and forward planning
  • Guide and support the Cape Kids management team in developing stronger financial knowledge and skills

Closure Operational Readiness

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaboration with and between the RTA finance team and the RT Closure finance team to align and manage the closure budgets and to develop and deliver accurate month end processes that meet the needs of both RT Closure and RTA. 
  • Support and advise on the timely and accurate preparation of month-end reporting. Review the preparation of Accrual due by COB WD-2; and Actuals.
  • Oversee and assist with the preparation and review of the annual financial reports as they relate to the RT Closure team.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, internal controls, accounting standards and company policies.
  • Identify and analyses opportunities for process enhancements and cost optimization within teams
  • Assis with budgeting, forecasting and forward planning
  • Guide and support the Closure operational readiness management team in developing stronger financial knowledge and skills

What you’ll bring   

To be successfully considered for this role we are looking for: 

  • Bachelor and/or professional qualification e.g. CA, CPA, CIMA. 
  • Advanced excel skills 
  • Power BI skills 
  • Management accounting or business analysis background 
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills 
  • Team orientated approach to delivery of strategic priorities 
  • Proven experience in identifying financial opportunities 
  • Effective presentation skills and ability to present strategic information
