Cadia Valley Operations is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Who we’re looking for
Reporting to the Superintendent – Geology, The Senior Geologist – Projects, will demonstrate leadership, managing the mine geology and drilling teams to ensure all work is carried out in a safe, structured and timely manner. The Senior Geologist – Projects, and their team, will contribute to the successful establishment and implementation of new caving projects at Cadia.
In this fast-paced role you will demonstrate technical and conceptual excellence in anticipating problems and guiding the team with delivery on goals relating to the execution, coordination and supervision of all underground development mapping and sampling at Cadia. In addition, you will coordinate and supervise operational (underground and surface) drilling.
The Senior Geologist – Projects will also ensure a timely flow of geological information between departments to allow for optimised designs and no delays in schedules.
Other responsibilities include:
- Demonstrate absolute commitment and leadership in providing a safe working environment:
- Supporting the Safety Management System, ensuring a safety-first work culture; applying site safety standards, procedures, and policies.
- Coordinate and distribute activities/tasks/projects for the mine geology team including, but not limited to:
- Co-ordination and supervision of daily underground and computer based digital geological mapping for development projects.
- Updating of 3-dimensional structural and lithological interpretations.
- Safe management of all drilling activities, including, design and execution of programs.
- Drill contract management and supervision
You will also possess the following:
- A relevant degree or tertiary qualification in Geology or Earth Science
- Experience supervising and mentoring junior geologists.
- Experience with diamond drilling and drill contract management
- Experience with geological interpretation and generation of models.
- A strong understanding of the mineral system controls (structural, geological, mineralisation, alteration) and deposit models/styles/footprints expected in the province.
- Competent in the use of geological software packages, experience using Vulcan, Leapfrog and Point Studio would be desirable.
- A valid Open Australian driver’s licence
