Senior Geometallurgist

Work Location: Perth - Fortescue Centre & Bennett St - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

Roster: 5:2 (Monday to Friday) (12 Month Fixed Term Contract)

Summary of role

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Geometallurgist/Geologist to join our Perth-based ‘Strategic Planning – Metallurgy & Resource Estimation’ team. A great opportunity for someone to step up into a Senior role. This role will be offered on an initial 12-month fixed term - full time contract for an external candidate coming into our business.

Reporting to the Principal Geometallurgist, the focus of this role is to improve our orebody knowledge by linking the metallurgical testwork results with the geological resource modelling, developing better geometallurgical domaining to ensure maximum orebody utilisation.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Display safe behaviours and safety leadership.
  • Support Strategic Planning Metallurgists in the analysis of product prediction reviews across all mine planning horizons
  • Plan and support metallurgical 6”/PQ diamond drilling for operational sites as well as studies to improve orebody knowledge
  • Analyse results from diamond drilling and geological information to identify improved geo-domaining opportunities
  • Engagement with mine geology, resource definition, drilling and resource estimation teams to understand the geology of the deposit
  • Maintaining key stakeholder relationships, and providing training and mentoring to geologists and metallurgists

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Relevant experience working on iron ore deposits desirable with a Tertiary qualification in Geology/Geoscience/Metallurgy (desirable)
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail with fundamental mine geology and drilling knowledge
  • Solid working knowledge of Vulcan, Arc Map and MS Office
  • Strong planning, leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Highly motivated and enthusiastic. Willing to take on new challenges and learn new skills
  • Be expected to conduct themselves in accordance with Fortescue’s Code of Conduct and Values at all times
