An exciting opportunity now exists for a Senior Geophysicist to join our Iron Ore - Resource Development team in Perth. Focused on realising and adding value to current and future projects, this key role will support and develop a team of Geophysicists and Geoscientists to ensure that downhole geophysical logging and associated activities are planned and executed safely, with results delivered to a high standard and in a timely manner.
Resource Development is a department within Operational and Technical Support, and to be successful needs to work closely with many internal and external stakeholders (including Technical Services, Mine Engineering, and Operations), to identify gaps and opportunities in resource understanding, generate targets for resource evaluation and ensure project delivery.
Reporting to the Superintendent Geophysicist you will:
- Lead a team of geophysicists and geoscientists to oversee the technical management of wireline geophysical field programs
- Support the Geophysics team to develop and interrogate surface and downhole geophysical data to support Resource Definition
- Ensure the delivery of high quality and fit for purpose geophysical data to the Geoscience, Hydrogeology and Geotechnical project teams
- Support and pursue innovative process improvements for data collection, processing, validation and geophysical modelling to ensure optimum delivery of data.
- Work with the Specialist Geophysicist to test and analyse the capability of new techniques/technologies through improvement programs with internal stakeholders and third party suppliers.
- Provide geophysical technical support for geologists, geotechnical engineers, and hydrogeology teams
- Liaise and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment around technical deliverables
- Mentor and develop capability within the geophysics team and ensure team development plans are supported.
What you will bring
Ideally, you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Geoscience, a strong foundation in geophysics and a good understanding of geoscience (ie geology, geochemistry, geological modelling),
- Demonstrated experience in wireline logging techniques
- Knowledge of magnetics, gravity and electromagnetic survey practices and data interpretation
- A good understanding of current best practices in geophysical data acquisition, interpretation, and modelling
- Iron Ore experience and a good knowledge of the geology of the Pilbara
- Programming and data science skills with an ability to read/write Python are highly regarded.
- Excellent engagement skills and able to build relationships and collaborative environments with multiple stakeholders
