Our Queensland Metals business operates five mining operations and processing plants, plus port and logistics operations and is a polymetallic business well placed for the future of commodities. As one of the largest global zinc lead mines, our North Queensland Zinc Assets offers our employees unique and challenging opportunities.

We are currently seeking an experienced and innovative thinking Senior Geotechnical Engineer for our Zinc underground mining operation. Reporting to the Geotechnical Superintendent; you will be responsible for mentoring Junior Geotechnical Engineers, maintaining and providing continuous improvement to current geotechnical procedures and processes. This position is residential in Mount Isa on a 5:2 4:3 roster and relocation benefits will be provided to the successful applicant.

Your key responsibilities will include :

• Ensure compliance is maintained to the Ground Control Management plan and QLD mining quarrying and Safety ACT.
• Training and mentoring of Geotechnical Engineers and providing ground awareness training to site personnel.
• Conduct and report Empirical and Numerical modelling of new mining blocks.
• Monitoring & Management of all geotechnical hazards of the open pit (currently inactive) and the underground operation.

If you have:

• A tertiary degree or an equivalent qualification in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or Mining Geo-mechanics.
• A minimum of 6 years’ experience in underground hard rock mining.
• Demonstrate teamwork, strong communication skills, effective problem solving skills, analytical skills.
• High level of accuracy in their work and ability to manage time effectively.
• Competent in using the following software packages, Rocscience software packages, Deswick, Leapfrog3D and Map3D. 
• A sound knowledge of risk management, safety systems and legislative requirements.
