About the Role

This opportunity is for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our high performing team at Leinster. The role offers an excellent opportunity to provide front end technical input into a large, long life nickel operation.  You will receive exposure to a vast range of geotechnical challenges and a rare opportunity to experience various Sub-Level Caving and Block Caving mining methods. 

Reporting to the Geotechnical Superintendent, your main accountabilities will include:

  • Managing the geotechnical considerations related to both surface and underground mining operations.
  • Provide geotechnical input into mine planning and design processes to ensure ongoing stability for short and long-term planning.
  • Execution of the geotechnical studies to establish new mining areas.
  • Identifying and implementing technical improvements.
  • Developing and maintaining systems and processes to meet geotechnical corporate governance and legislative compliance.
  • Assessing seismic responses to mining and managing seismic hazard.
  • Maintaining procedures, processes and databases for all geotechnical functions.
  • Assisting in the supervision of contractors and consultants.
  • Undertaking key geotechnical projects.
  • Development of technical reports detailing the geotechnical design outcomes.

About You

To be considered for this role it is preferred you will have the following skills and experience: 

  • A degree (bachelor or higher) in Mining, Civil or Geological Engineering.  Applicants with a degree in Geology plus relevant training and industry experience will be considered.
  • Strong experience in a geotechnical role. Deep and high stress mining and/or caving exposure will be highly regarded.
  • Sound understanding of the geotechnical considerations for life of mine design and geotechnical risk management.
  • Demonstrated experience in geotechnical design using empirical and analytical techniques.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to significantly contribute to an experienced team.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
