Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Medium Term Planning

Work Location: Solomon - Fortescue’s Solomon mine is located on the traditional lands of the Eastern Guruma and Yindjibarndi peoples

Roster: 4D/3R (Mon-Thu) FIFO ex. Perth

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Medium-Term Planning team at Solomon Mine Site. Reporting to the Superintendent Medium Term Planning, this role is responsible for providing technical guidance in operational ground control for the Solomon Operation. The position will provide technical support in ground control operational management implementation, monitoring system implementation, data analysis and reporting.  The role will operate across a range of mine planning and development horizons.

Key responsibilities:

  • Operational geotechnical risk management inspections, production support and hazard reporting
  • Implementation and management of ground control standards for open pit slopes and waste rock dumps
  • Geotechnical monitoring system implementation, maintenance, analysis and reporting
  • Geotechnical rockmass mapping and structural model reconciliation and reporting
  • Design performance review and compliance reporting
  • Support geotechnical drilling programs; drill hole design, data collection and geotechnical database management, analysis and reporting
  • Conduct geotechnical awareness training
  • Slope stability modelling, design assessment and reporting
  • Mentor and develop two Geotechnical Engineers

Skills, qualifications and experience required:

  • A degree or an equivalent tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering/ Engineering Geology or similar is preferred
  • 5 Years+ of onsite operational geotechnical experience preferably open pit
  • Demonstrated experience in monitoring system implementation and management
  • Previous experience with geotechnical modelling and mining software packages (Rocscience and Vulcan) would be an advantage
  • Excellent communication skills, with a demonstrated experience of communicating to a variety of stakeholders
  • Knowledge of mine planning and drill and blast processes is essential
  • Strong data management and manipulation skills
  • Must hold current driver’s licence
