Operations near and far

Located in the Great Sandy Desert in East Pilbara, Western Australia, Telfer is a fly in out fly out operation from Perth which recognizes the importance of work-life balance.  Our comfortable, well furnished rooms include Foxtel, and our site offers quality food with healthy options, medical care, sports and recreation activities. Families are welcomed several times a year to open days to support our community feel at Telfer. 

Who we’re looking for:

Reporting into the Superintendent – Safety, Emergency Services and Security, a permanent opportunity has arisen for a Senior Health Advisor to lead and support the clinical team of high performing medical professionals whilst maintaining a close working relationship with the wider site.

The Senior Health Advisor, is responsible for providing health, injury management and health promotion leadership and direction to the clinical team at Telfer such that there is a reduction in injuries occurring, reduction in treatment and recovery time and reductions in workers compensation claims to the business via best practice injury management and patient-centred care.

A few key responsibilities will include:

  • Demonstrate absolute commitment and leadership in providing a safe working environment
  • Ensuring safe systems of work are in place for all activities; ensuring personnel are trained, inducted and competent to perform work; ensuring competent supervision
  • Taking a proactive risk management approach to departmental tasks, i.e., recognise, analyse, respond to ensure risks are at an acceptable level; ensuring hazards are identified and controlled in line with Newcrest standards
  • Provide data and guidance relevant to the effectiveness of Newcrest’s Injury Prevention and reduction programs
  • Develop, Support and Manage Medical treating Staff in enabling them to become high performing individuals with a Team first ethos
  • Schedule and Implement random FFW testing programs as requested or, where scheduled testing demonstrates consistent illicit substance use
  • Ensure effective clinic leadership exists onsite at all times
  • Interface and liaise with the Emergency Services and Security teams to develop and grow the medical service provided to the operation
  • Supervise and oversee the site’s medical clinic, injury management and prevention, and return to work programs

You will be safety-focused, team-oriented, enable and drive continuous improvement and be willing to strive for results. 

Ideally, you will also have the following:

  • Undergraduate/Postgraduate health degree (Essential)
  • Diploma of Injury Management or Diploma of Health Promotion qualification (Essential)
  • Manual C class drivers licence (Essential)
  • Collect pathology specimens other than blood (Approved drug screening officer or equivalent – Desirable)
  • Certificate IV in WHS (Desirable)
  • Previous leadership experience, leading teams (Desirable)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills

We are looking for an experienced leader and health professional who is familiar with working in a highly collaborative environment with a strong emphasis on innovation and best practices.

Please note: This is a permanent role, FIFO from Perth Telfer on an 8 days on/6 off roster
