Our Opportunity

Location: Fortescue’s Christmas Creek mine is located on the traditional lands of the Nyiyaparli people.

Roster: 8D6R ex Perth

 

Reporting to the Health and Safety Superintendent, this role is central to driving the planning, improvement, and implementation of the Mine’s Safety Management System (MSMS) in line with Fortescue standards.

You’ll be a key influencer on site, using strong interpersonal skills to build trust, engage teams, and champion a proactive safety culture at the frontline. A genuine commitment to safety and the ability to lead through influence are essential to succeed in this critical role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with leaders and stakeholders to drive HSES performance and meet Fortescue risk management requirements
  • Lead audits, incident investigations (ICAMs, SI, reportables), and ensure compliance with legislative reporting
  • Champion safety initiatives, projects, and continuous improvement across site and corporate programs
  • Support and develop safety advisors and leaders, including risk assessments and frontline safety engagement
  • Represent Health & Safety across site, including leadership forums, emergency response coordination, and weekend coverage

Qualifications and Experience

  • Extensive experience in Health & Safety (5–10 years), ideally within mining and audit management
  • Strong knowledge of WHS and Mine Safety legislation, risk management principles, and safety systems
  • Proven ability to lead audits, facilitate systems, and drive continuous improvement
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and coach teams
  • Proficient in key digital tools (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio) and emerging technologies (AI in H&S)
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Workplace Health & Safety (Diploma minimum; postgraduate preferred)
