Cadia Valley Operations is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Residential employees reside in varied accommodation options in and around the district of Orange with the surrounding area’s occupied by wineries, stone fruit orchards, farming and national parks.

Who we’re looking for  

As the Senior Health and Safety Advisor, you will be responsible for assisting the Health & Safety Superintendent, and site in the development and management of a Health and Safety framework for the Cadia Integrated Tailings Project (CITP) in alignment with Newmont health & safety processes and procedures.

You will assume a pivotal position in the CITP Project Team and provide guidance to internal and external stakeholders, including Cadia Valley Operations (CVO) mine stakeholders, contracted business partners, and consultants, with your primary objective to ensure the safe and professional delivery of the project.

This long-term contract position will be offered as a 12/9 roster, with FIFO / DIDO arrangements available.

Key responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Conduct Visible Felt Leadership interactions, System Verifications and Field Critical Control Checks whilst on site maintaining a safety presence.
  • Ensure the CITP team members and contractor staffs are adequately trained and supported in the implementation of Newmont safety standards.
  • Leading of investigation and appraisal of site related incidents and identifying remedial actions to reduce H&S risk, and ensuring the close out of safety incidents and actions within the required timeframe using our Safety System CHESS
  • Lead and/or contribute to the development and implementation of safety standards, procedures, and related resources.
  • Proactively contribute to Risk Assessment Workshops and the coordination of required High-Risk-Work activities and supporting risk assessments.
  • Personally contribute to material risk mitigation via the timely and ‘conforming’ completion of critical control system Verification tasks.
  • Demonstrate safety leadership with the highest professional and ethical standards ensuring all actions are transparent and in accordance with Company Policies and Standards
  • Openly and reliably support the implementation of and adherence to Newmont Company Policies.
  • Monitor, validate and report on CITP safety KPI’s to drive accountability and reward achievement.
  • Implementing H&S audits across the CITP to capture trends and communicating the implementation of lessons learned.
  • Providing expert H&S advice to the Project Director, Project Managers, HSEC manager and Project staff and business partners
  • Managing the safety initiatives across the project within the program coordinating reviews and ensuring recommendations are progressed, tracked, and effectively closed out on time and per quality obligations.

You will also possess the following: 

  • Minimum of Cert IV in HSE studies and/or a comparable technical field
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a safety related role
  • Construction, management and/or relevant heavy industry experience
  • Experience and understanding of Health systems, workplace rehabilitation and mental health initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change and produce results
  • Strong consultative and influencing skills as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experienced practitioner of ICAM or equivalent investigation methodologies
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills
