About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity to become a part of the exciting and challenging world of Process and Functional Safety at Olympic Dam.  

Reporting to the Superintendent Process Safety, you will be part of a team that provides technical input to manage the Major Hazard Facility (MHF) risk profile and partners with the Operation to enable improved safety and production outcomes. 

The Senior Instrumentation and Control System Engineer also plays a hands-on role in supporting the Principal Functional Safety Engineer to continue embed a Process Safety facing culture through providing technical support, coaching teams and identifying opportunities for improvement.

This role will be based in Adelaide with regular travel to site.

In this role you will:  

  • Ensure Process Safety risks impacted by I&CS are identified, assessed and managed according to BHP’s Safety Our Requirements and other BHP systems and processes
  • Provide assurance of Process Safety and Functional Safety Management at Olympic Dam through implementation of elements of the Safety Management Systems
  • Support continuous improvement and embedment of a Process Safety facing culture within the Operation, from front line to senior management
  • Contribute to the review of Process Safety Material Risks, Critical Control Performance Standards, Asset Class Standards associated with I&CS and Functional Safety
  • Support and review management of change for Operational activities associated with I&CS and Functional Safety
  • Support Process and Functional Safety related standards, procedures and guidelines, including development and periodic reviews of these documents
  • Facilitate and participate in risk assessments (e.g. Bowties, HAZOP, CHAZOP, LOPA and Machine Safety Risk Assessments)
  • Support Process Safety incident investigations 

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in technology, instrumentation, control systems or electrical
  • Sound knowledge and experience in the design, construction, commissioning and operation of instrumentation, control systems and safety instrumented systems
  • Ability to review and provide feedback on technical documents including drawings, control system design documents, PLC software and Functional Safety lifecycle documentation
  • Solid analytical skills as well as ability to apply judgement based on the analysis of factual and qualitative information in complicated or novel situations
  • Experience and demonstration of competency in Functional Safety for process and machine applications
  • Sound knowledge of MHF legislative requirements and application of technical standards for managing risk of plant in the workplace 
  • Strong communication and interposal skills with experience in engaging an array of stakeholders to communicate and source information
