Senior Inventory Specialist

Work Location: Perth. Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

Roster: Monday-Friday

Role overview:

The Senior Inventory Specialist will deliver high quality Inventory Management Services and solutions to maintain the uninterrupted supply of required goods to the Fortescue Site Operations.

The Inventory group is responsible for the day-to-day inventory transactions and routines that facilitate strategic inventory analysis to ensure Inventory catalogued items are managed at optimal levels and material availability is sustained in accordance with Supply Chain Best Practice. 

The Specialist role is to lead as a Subject Matter Expert to both support the Inventory and Materials Management team, to design and contribute to the successful implementation of Global Inventory management standards.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Contribute, lead and influence the Inventory team and culture, mentor and coach Inventory team and other business team members in the intricacies and importance of effective Inventory Management
  • As an SME support the review/development/implementation of policies, processes, and standard of the inventory management team
  • Provide support and training in the use of the inventory tools and systems (for example the optimisation tool)
  • Support the introduction of business changes that require inventory operations (for example the FFI manufacturing capability through attendance and support across all materials management related SAP workshops) and participate as the Inventory representative and SME in support of new business system initiatives (for example S4 Transformation initiatives)
  • Act as the Inventory SME in support of any Capital Project material requirements including developing and implementing the strategy and leading the supporting activities and participate in stakeholder or other meetings as required by the team to provide support or lead problem solving for identified issues or service impacts to the customer/partners.
  • Be available to provide operational support across the broader inventory teams (as required) to ensure seamless inventory management.

Qualification and Experience: 

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and the capability to develop positive relationships with stakeholders
  • Experience in a Team-based Service Provider environment and to ability to work autonomously
  • Expert process and systems proficiency and demonstrated ability to learn quickly and adapt
  • Personal discipline and motivation, and the ability to implement and lead for high standards
  • Expert knowledge and or experience with Material Management, Inventory and Warehousing and Logistics processes and procedures
  • Experience in Vendor and or Contractor Management
