Fortescue is seeking an experienced Senior Investment Analyst to help shape and accelerate the development of industries critical to the global energy transition.
Joining the Investment Analysis team within Group Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), you will play a key role in assessing complex, large-scale investment opportunities. You will build sophisticated financial models and deliver financial, economic and commercial insights that provide trusted advice on some of Fortescue’s most important growth and decarbonisation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
As Senior Investment Analyst, you will:
- Build and maintain sophisticated financial models including financing structures for large-scale energy, infrastructure and industrial projects.
- Evaluate a broad opportunity set spanning renewable energy, green iron, data centres and associated energy infrastructure, green grids, battery storage, transmission, green hydrogen and ammonia, and other emerging green industrial opportunities.
- Analyse investment opportunities across Australia and international jurisdictions, considering energy-sector dynamics, macroeconomic conditions, government policies and incentives, financing environments, tax systems and customer requirements.
- Undertake commercial and financial analysis across the project lifecycle, from early-stage development and feasibility through construction, operations and potential exit.
- Assess project economics, including IRR, NPV, cash flows, capital requirements, leverage, debt service, sensitivities, scenarios and key value drivers.
- Analyse commercial structures and market assumptions, including PPAs, energy supply agreements, offtake agreements, tolling arrangements, infrastructure access agreements, carbon pricing, data centre revenue models and green product premiums.
- Support project development, financing and transaction activities, including technology and configuration assessments, development pathways, market-entry strategies, strategic partnerships, joint ventures, acquisitions and divestments.
- Coordinate technical, commercial, legal, tax, finance and external adviser inputs, and engage with advisers, financiers, government agencies, offtake partners and other stakeholders on project economics, valuation and financial projections.
- Identify key investment risks and opportunities, translating complex analysis into clear, commercially grounded recommendations.
- Develop investment cases, business cases, recommendations, investment papers, presentations and executive-level materials for Fortescue’s senior management and investment decision-makers.

Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in accounting, finance, mathematics, engineering or a related discipline, with professional qualifications such as CFA, CIMA or ACA (or equivalent) highly regarded.
- 7+ years’ relevant experience in financial modelling, investment analysis, corporate finance, project finance, commercial analysis or a related field, preferably within renewable energy, complex infrastructure, resources or other capital-intensive sectors.
- Demonstrated ability to build complex financial models from the ground up in accordance with best-practice modelling principles, with excellent attention to detail.
- Experience evaluating major capital projects through development and, ideally, Final Investment Decision (FID), including investment opportunities across developed and emerging international markets.
- Experience in project finance, financing or tax structures, M&A, due diligence, acquisitions, divestments or other commercial ventures will be highly regarded.
