Fortescue is driving a global green revolution, leveraging artificial intelligence and advanced analytics to scale renewable energy solutions and optimise operations. Working as an embedded partner for the AI team, you will support the financial performance and strategic delivery of AI-enabled projects across Fortescue’s entire business including initiatives across Operations, Corporate Services, Asset Management and Safety.
As a finance business partner, you will provide end-to-end management accounting and embed financial insight into AI initiatives—from early-stage use cases through to deployment and scaling. Working closely with data and engineering teams, you will support investment decisions, track value realisation, and ensure robust governance and cost control across AI programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver accurate and timely month-end close activities across the AI portfolio, ensuring compliance with Group Accounting Policies and governance requirements.
- Support the preparation of the annual budget and quarterly forecasts in collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Act as a trusted finance business partner to cost controllers and business leads, providing timely, insightful financial analysis and driver-based commentary to support decision-making.
- Prepare detailed variance and trend analysis, identifying risks, opportunities, and improvement initiatives.
- Participate in cross-functional initiatives that enhance the accuracy, transparency, and effectiveness of financial reporting.
- Take ownership of smaller finance-related improvement projects and “clean-up” activities, ensuring systems and processes are efficient and fit for purpose.
- Oversee SAP Delegations of Authority (DOA) and SAP structure maintenance, ensuring correct setup, hierarchy alignment, and system integrity.
- Proactively identify areas where finance systems, structures, or processes can be simplified or standardised to support Growth & Energy objectives.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree-qualified in Accounting or Finance (CPA / CA preferred or in progress).
- 3–5+ years’ experience in management accounting, ideally within energy, infrastructure, mining, or complex project environments.
- Strong analytical skills with a proactive, solutions-focused mindset. Power BI, Power Query and other analytical systems knowledge preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex financial concepts and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with a high degree of autonomy and flexibility.
- Collaborative team player who thrives in a dynamic, evolving environment.
