We are looking for a Senior Manager Contracts & Procurement to lead the contracts and procurement team supporting Rio Tinto’s Iron Ore projects portfolio.The Rio Tinto Projects division operates within Rio Tinto’s Development & Technology group to support the entire life cycle of Rio Tinto’s mines and assets, creating value through exploration, project development and technical excellence. Working in close partnership with all product groups, it focuses on finding safer, smarter and more efficient ways to manage resources and operations.This role is a great opportunity to provide strategic direction by leading the commercial function for a portfolio of projects at various stages and to engage with the stakeholders at General Manager, Managing Director and Executive level. Reporting to the General Manager Project Services APAC, you will be:

  • Leading a large and experienced team of procurement and contracts practitioners supporting a portfolio of mine and infrastructure projects across Rio Tinto’s Iron Ore projects portfolio
  • Providing strategic advice to project delivery leaders and generate meaningful insights about project execution from a wide range of data sources
  • Managing the interface between the project teams and various functions within Rio Tinto including Legal, Finance, Business Analysis, Project Controls, Engineering, Project and Construction Management and Rio Tinto’s central Procurement function.
  • Building and maintaining effective working relationships with key EPCM, works contractor and supplier stakeholders
  • Managing the process for resolving escalated contractor claims and disputes (working with Rio Tinto Legal)
  • Ensuring systems, procedures and model documents for a project or project portfolio meet both owner’s team and corporate requirements
  • Ensuring best practice and sharing of knowledge by communicating and collaborating with the broader contracts and project services team

What you’ll bringTo succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Degree qualification in Engineering, Legal or Business/Commerce together with enriched years of Procurement and Contracts experience attained within a project environment
  • Demonstrated previous success in a senior contracts/commercial leadership role on mega projects or a large capital projects portfolio
  • Thorough understanding of Procurement and Contracts concepts
  • Experience working across all phases of projects, from studies to execution
  • Ability to provide strategic direction from inception to implementation
  • Experience and an understanding of the Australian contractor market and global supplier market with experience in Western Australian Construction industry preferred
