About the role

We’re looking for a proactive and strategic employee relations professional to join our new global ER/IR leadership team.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Leadership: Leading and providing support to a team of ER/IR professionals across Australia. This will include providing leadership advice to senior HR and Business leaders on all ER/IR matters including complex case management and collective bargaining.
  • Proactive strategy: ownership of a process that identifies ER/IR opportunities and risks, and developing strategic proactive projects that drive world class employee engagement.
  • External focus: You will be responsible for monitoring changes to regulation, preparing for and participating in regulatory and consultative review processes and providing recommendations to various stakeholders on how to manage emerging changes or trends. This will include representing Rio Tinto externally, preparing relevant applications and responses, and appearing in the FWC and other tribunals.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have the following;

  • You are proactive and curious in your approach; you seek out opportunities and construct pragmatic plans to realise them.
  • You have a track record of developing projects in support of business strategy and garnering buy in through your exceptional influencing skills that you have applied across organisational levels.
  • You effectively balance long term strategic thinking with a willingness to “roll the sleeves up” and pragmatically deal with matters in the moment.
  • You hold a tertiary qualification in Human Resources and/or Law, and/or Employee and Industrial Relations
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of relevant ER/IR legislation within different jurisdictions and the ability to translate this knowledge into practical solutions in a business context.
  • Effective time management and the ability to manage several competing priorities and time-sensitive work
  • You will demonstrate high capability in leading collective agreement negotiations, developing policy positions and collaborating effectively with stakeholders including governments.
