About the role
We are looking for a Senior Manager People Data & Insights to lead and grow a diverse team of 30+ specialists across multiple technical disciplines. You’ll coach and develop your team, set clear priorities, and build a high-performing, inclusive culture where people collaborate effectively and consistently deliver great outcomes.
As the Senior Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the insights strategy and innovation of the People function. You will drive excellence in how we gain value from our People data across data science and AI, data governance, data engineering, surveys and research, business intelligence, and analytics partnering. You will be at the forefront of transforming how we use data to inform decision-making, enable workforce strategy and unlock value across the organisation.
Partnering across the People function, IS&T and business leaders you will identify opportunities where data-driven insights shape decision-making and improve workforce outcomes, and how we use AI to improve our processes. You will engage, influence and collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, providing strategic guidance and building alignment on organisational priorities.
Reporting to the GM, People Technology, Data & Insights and working in a challenging and exciting environment some accountabilities include
Strategic Vision: Develop and execute the strategic roadmap for People Data and Insights, aligning initiatives with organisational goals and strategic priorities.
Stakeholder Engagement and Delivery: Partner with stakeholders across the function and business for collaborative ways of working and co-designed outcomes. Oversee multiple high-impact projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with priorities.
People Analytics Literacy: Drive adoption of data and analytics across the People function to enhance data and analytics capabilities, ensuring scalability and alignment with emerging trends and technologies.
Data and AI Governance and Compliance: Ensure robust data and AI governance frameworks are in place to maintain data integrity, ethical AI, privacy, and compliance with applicable regulations.
Innovation in Analytics: Lead efforts in advanced analytics, predictive modeling, and actionable insights to inform evidence-based decision making.
Continuous Improvement: Establish a culture of continuous learning and process improvement, leveraging feedback and emerging best practices and technological advances.
About you
Proven leadership experience managing large, multidisciplinary teams in HR, data and analytics, or related fields.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to partner with and influence stakeholders at all levels, translating business outcomes into technical delivery.
Exceptional strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data insights into actionable strategies.
Expertise in managing multiple, simultaneous projects with competing priorities.
Proven ability to develop and manage a prioritised roadmap based on short and long term business outcomes and priority trade offs.
Demonstrated success in leading transformation and change initiatives within complex organizations.
Good understanding of and deep curiosity into the intersect between strategic human resource management and data and analytics.

Where you’ll be working
This role can be based in Brisbane or Perth.
The HR function supports 46 000 employees in around 36 countries and operates out of three business hubs in Brisbane, Perth and Montreal. Data science roles have diverse, multi-industry backgrounds and comprehensive skills in the fields of data modelling, engineering, and visualisation, as well as advanced analytics techniques, including machine learning and optimisation. These skills are used to turn data into information that can be used to make improved decisions that generate competitive advantage for Rio Tinto.
