We are looking for a Senior Manager - Project Servicesto join the Winu Project and Project Services team for Rio Tinto Projects. This role has a focus on contract formation, contract administration, cost, scheduling, progress measurement and change management.

This role is a great opportunity for a seasoned Project Services professional to influence and ensure project services are maintained and delivered for Rio Tinto’s Winu Project. Reporting to the General Manager Project Services and working in a collaborative and exciting environment you will:

  • Lead the project controls and contracts and procurement teams on the project

  • Partner with stakeholders to deliver the Rio Tinto Winu project by managing project controls practices and ensuring compliance with Rio Tinto Projects systems, policies and procedures.

  • Ensure appropriate company standards, processes and policies are implemented for legal and commercial requirements.

  • Provide expertise in proper financial control across the project including cost control, forecasting, project reporting and claims management.

  • Supervise the contract team in commercial strategy and risk positioning to ensure internal risk is adequately apportioned.

  • Lead and develop the Winu Project Contracting Plan (PCP).  Manage the bid, evaluate and award process for execution of the PCP ensuring contract awards meet the timing needs of the project while ensuring PM+ processes are followed, and the outcome is fair and optimal.  Ensuring the management of commercial packages is efficient and effective and any claims are well managed.

  • Lead and develop the Winu Project Services team to enable optimal performance and deliverables.

  • Problem solving and providing advice to project leaders regarding project controls related issues including cost and progress measurement, schedule and change management and commercial issues around contractor claims and contracting strategies.

  • Validate project commercial reports, as well as regular review of project controls reporting, cost and schedule status.

  • Using your project management skills to implement continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Provide support to the Regional Economic Development initiative

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team

  • Previous success in building, leading and developing a team of Project Services professionals

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to build effective relationships both within the business and with contract partners and vendors

  • Degree qualification in Business/Commerce or Engineering or similar

  • Substantial proven experience in Project Services attained within a project environment

  • Thorough understanding of contracts, project controls and project management concepts

  • Previous experience in commercial strategy for build, own, operate (BOO) power plants

  • Previous commercial experience in China sourcing of engineering, supply, fabrication and modularisation 

  • Must have excellent communication skills, with fluency in English required
