The Opportunity - Permanent, Full-Time Position 

A newly created position has arisen for a Senior Manager of Safety & Security and is responsible for working collaboratively to provide leadership, expertise, and direction to generate value (social, environmental, and economic) now and into the future

This role is suited to a driven, proactive, and hands-on safety professional who will lead:
•    Design of our Safety, Security and Emergency Management System, including the global Safety, Security and Emergency Management Standards and the Systems
•    Evaluates performance in relation to the internal and external environment. 
•    Provides stewardship and support for the business to adhere to the Standards and be legally compliant, 
•    Mitigate business-level material risks through the delivery of strategic improvement projects in collaboration with operation-based teams and other functions where relevant.


Reporting to the Group Manager Safety & Security, key role responsibilities include: 
•    Resource, manage, and mentor a team of safety, security and emergency management professionals to enable the business to effectively mitigate safety, security and emergency management related risk and deliver strategic improvement projects
•    Provide advice on material safety, security and emergency management matters to management, functional and operational teams to support the stewardship and compliance with regulatory requirements and internal company standards
•    Influence the strategic direction of the business with respect to safety, security and emergency management to reduce long-term risk exposure and support legal compliance and promote enduring safety, security and emergency management outcomes
•    Embed the Global Safety, Security and Emergency Standards, and ensure processes are in place that support the effective deployment of the Standards across the business
•    Own the portfolio of strategic improvement projects across the safety, security and emergency disciplines that support the delivery of the South32 business plan/s and functional objectives
•    Engage in external forums to discuss emerging industry-wide safety issues/opportunities and guide policy direction (government and industry-based) where relevant to the South32 business 
•    Manage the financial performance of the Safety and Security Function
•    Create an inclusive workplace with a strong culture of care and accountability
•    Develop sound working relationships based on trust


About You 
•    Extensive knowledge of health, safety, security and crisis and emergency management processes and technologies, relevant industry standards (eg. ICMM) 
•    Proven experience in establishing and maintaining effective business-level health and safety management systems, and delivery of strategy, strategic projects, and change initiatives 
•    Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain sound working relationships (face to face and remote)
•    Track record in leading change initiatives in a diverse business setting 
•    Formed and led successful teams for at least five years in management 
•    Effective report writing abilities include the ability to create reports for the Board
•    Experienced in leading a serious accident investigation with sound knowledge of the process involved
•    Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing business needs and circumstances 
•    Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with a natural abundance of energy, warmth, and genuine enthusiasm 
•    Highly collaborative, builds trust and respect by always acting with high ethical standards, objectivity, transparency, due care and professionalism
•    Ability to manage multiple assignments, with the capability and desire to deliver “hands on” support with your team as and when necessary 
•    Proven ability to work independently and unsupervised
•    Highly self-motivated, results oriented, and delivery focused with a willingness and passion to drive improvement and innovation

Specific work experience (preferred)
o    Site-based health and safety position (min 10 years) 
o    business level health and safety position (min 5 years) 
o    with a Health or Safety regulatory agency would be advantageous

Qualifications
•    Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering or Similar 

Location
This role will be based at our office in the heart of the Perth CBD, however, are willing to consider other locations. We understand and value the benefits flexibility brings and operate a hybrid work model (in the office and from home).
