The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join South32’s Sustainability Strategy teamin a newly created role as Senior Manager Sustainability Strategy, Policy and Emerging Trends.

Reporting to the VP Sustainability Strategy this role is responsible for leading the sustainability strategy, including advising the Board and Lead Team on sustainability risks and opportunities and internal and external reporting on progress against South32’s public sustainability commitments.  In this role you will have the opportunity to develop the team, including recruitment of new team members.

Accountabilities 

Leading the group Sustainability Strategy, Policy and Emerging Trends team, you will:

  • Develop the sustainability strategy for South32 in line with South32’s purpose and strategy 
  • Create a global Sustainability Plan to deliver the sustainability strategy, and monitor progress against the Plan
  • Advise the Board and Lead Team on sustainability trends, opportunities and risks, and on updates to the Plan required to meet changes in expectations or circumstances.
  • Lead South32’s approach to sustainability reporting and collaborate with Reporting and Governance functions to ensure consistent and accurate sustainability-related reporting and disclosures
  • Establish and manage scorecard targets for global sustainability issues and monitor ongoing performance
  • Develop operational readiness plans to implement policy and strategy decisions
  • Manage and lead engagement with key external stakeholders on policy matters related to sustainability
  • Provide guidance and coaching to teams executing the Sustainability Plan
  • Provide guidance to support the overall management of the implementation of sustainability performance-led actions, including the analysis of effectiveness of management plans that mitigate sustainability risks
  • Engage with investors, as required, for sustainability-related issues
  • Liaise with VPs Operations and Functions to ensure alignment of business plans and sustainability-related commitments

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum), post graduate level qualifications desirable
  • Extensive technical and applied knowledge in a broad range of sustainability issues in a multi-location, diversified natural resource company. 
  • Knowledge of ESG factors, trends, and expectations with regard to investors and other stakeholders. 
  • Ability to influence and gain the trust of the Lead Team and Board.

Location

This role will be based at our corporate office in the heart of Perth CBD with stunning river views. Interstate and international candidates who are open to relocating to Perth are encouraged to apply.

For desirable candidates, we may consider basing the role in other South32 office locations.
