In the Great Sandy Desert in the East Pilbara region of Western Australia, our Telfer gold-copper mine is our fly-in-fly-out operation, comprising both open pits and an underground mine. While at site Telfer offers a diverse range of recreational activities including a gym, swimming pool, driving range, movie room and refurbished communal eatery.
Who we’re looking for
As our Senior Mechanical Engineer – Compliance you will be responsible in providing Mechanical compliance support to site including as a minimum managing and ensuring Telfer Site Classified Plant Compliance as well as Fire Safe Compliance. The Senior Mechanical Compliance Engineer actively supports safety improvement initiatives, demonstrate safety leadership across site and identify and mitigation risks for Mechanical systems. Directly reporting to the Engineering Supervisor, this is a technical role with no direct reports and a focus on mechanical compliance.
Other key responsibilities will include (but not limited to);
- Ensure site compliance with site and Australian standards and regulations.
- Owner & responsible for Material Risk - Mechanical in CHESS
- Assist in identifying and monitoring key Mechanical reliability risks across site and track the implementation of key risk mitigation strategies.
- Provide technical support, guidance and coaching to site personnel on matters related to Mechanical safety, statutory compliance, and engineering matters.
- Investigate Mechanical incidents and provide technical reports and recommendations to site safety team to align with MSIR requirements.
- Create, update, and review new or existing site Mechanical standards and procedures.
- Conduct statutory Mechanical audits and verifications and provide recommendations.
- Manage communication of changes in Mechanical safe work procedures across site.
- Liaise with other Newcrest sites and attend cross-site safety interactions and meetings.
- Completion of projects within agreed timeline
We are looking for a strong communicator and influencer and someone who is familiar with working in a highly collaborative environment with a strong emphasis on innovation and best practice.
Additional responsibilities/experience required;
- Ensure compliance with Newcrest Occupational Health, Safety, Environmental Policies & Procedures and encourage others to so.
- Maintain an electronic register of the site Registered Classified Plant (RCP)
- Develop/maintain annual inspection schedule for RCP requiring Compliance Certification (CC)
- Training and coaching of managers, superintendents and supervisors as required
- Participate in incident investigations involving RCP
- Record and track all non-compliances requiring immediate remediation from an RCP inspection.
- Effectively communicate and record all CC remediation works
- Complete emergent inspections on RCP
- Approve and appoint all Classified Plant Compliance Inspectors and Area Champions
- Entries into the classified plant record book as required under MSIR and DMIRS guidelines
- Providing effective supervision and management of compliance related personnel
- Inspect Itinerant Classified Plant as required
- Generate a reporting system that provides a clear summary and visibility for major compliance disciplines
Please note: This is a permanent role that will work on a FIFO (8/6), flying out of Perth.
