We are currently looking for a Senior Metallurgist to join a team of technical experts within Rio Tinto Iron Ore (RTIO). Based in Perth at our Central Park premises, you will join a team of experienced metallurgists and geometallurgists working on the beneficiation of Pilbara Iron ores - a key challenge in the decarbonisation of the Steel industry.
Reporting to the Principal Metallurgist you will be involved with:
· Development of testwork to understand the fundamental properties of the various Pilbara oretypes
· Overseeing the execution of the testwork at both internal and external facilities
· Liaising with a wide group of stakeholders across Rio Tinto
· Developing collaborative partnerships with internal Rio Tinto expert groups and external organisations
· Organising and assisting in the collection of bulk samples from existing minesites and drillcore from undeveloped deposits
· Scoping and managing pilot beneficiation testwork at internal and external facilities
· Working closely with downstream pyromet colleagues to provide products for pelletising and reduction testwork
This permanent position will be offered with a hybrid of flexible working from home/office arrangements across Monday to Friday and will suit someone living in Perth or willing to relocate to Perth on a permanent basis.
What you’ll bring
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
· A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
· Tertiary qualifications (in Metallurgy, Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering or equivalent)
· Considerable metallurgical knowledge of the beneficiation processes used in iron ore
· Experience in the metallurgical evaluation of new orebodies
· A history of both metallurgical project testwork work and research oriented projects will be valuable
· Effective communication skills and the ability to act as a change agent
· A desire to be working in a people orientated role
· The motivation and ability to be self-driven and work autonomously
