About the Role
We are seeking a senior metallurgist with experience in base metals flotation to join our high-performing team in Leinster. Reporting to the Superintendent Technical Services, the role will be responsible for supervising a small team that are responsible for identifying process improvement opportunities, utilising metallurgical data processing and analysis, and providing metallurgical support to the operations team.
The role will work closely with Geology, Mine Planning, Operational teams, and Engineering Disciplines in a culture of open collaboration, to enable opportunities to create sustainable value for BHP and their joint venture partners.
The role will be focused on delivering high-quality technical studies on process plant performance and supporting the metallurgy team on daily process plant operations.
The role is responsible for:
- Develop custom systems, workflows, and models to optimise current and new tools within Metallurgy, for the purposes of efficient analysis and decision making
- Daily technical review of process plant performance, providing direction to operations team
- Develop and manage test work programs
- Document processes and workflows into work instructions and procedures
- Supervise metallurgists providing training and development
- Review of short- and long-term production plans
- Support metal accounting and reconciliation activities
About You
You will have analytical and technical skills and demonstrate the ability to deliver and communicate technical results. Stakeholder engagement skills are a must, as you will have to build relationships across the business and communicate with people from multiple disciplines and at all levels.
You will be a source of technical support to others, building the team's capabilities.
You’ll require:
- Tertiary qualification in metallurgy, process engineering (or equivalent)
- Experience in plant operations, plant design or plant commissioning; with experience in process modelling well regarded
- Experience in supervisory or leadership roles
- Experience in metallurgical laboratory and sampling practices
- Experience in base metals flotation
- Excellent communication skills
