About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Metallurgist with experience working on strategic projects and studies with an understanding of data science techniques to join our high-performing team in Perth.  

Reporting to the Superintendent Metallurgy, the role will be responsible for supporting Studies on processing plant options, utilising metallurgical data processing and analysis, and providing metallurgical data science support to the Geoscience Function and wider Iron Ore asset stakeholders.

The role will be focused on delivering a high-quality level of support to customers in studies, geoscience, mining operations and production scheduling.

The role is responsible for:

  • Being the Subject Matter Expert for metallurgy and processing aspects in the various phases of life of asset, strategic, directional and capital projects
  • Develop custom systems, workflows and models to optimise current and new tools within  Metallurgy, for the purposes of efficient analysis and decision making by the wider Iron Ore stakeholders
  • Process and manage the continuous flow of data; ensuring the data and its products are available to be utilised by customers as required. 
  • Ensure QAQC processes are adequate, data is reviewed and approved in a timely manner, and products meet customer specifications
  • Document processes and workflows into work instructions and procedures.
  • Coaching team members in data science, metallurgy and processing fundamentals

The role has the potential for job sharing and is well suited for a flexible work arrangement, including flexible hours and potential to work from home.

About You

You will have analytical and technical skills and demonstrate the ability to deliver and communicate technical results.  Stakeholder engagement skills are a must, as you will have to build relationships across the business and communicate with people from multiple disciplines and at all levels. You’ll require:

  • Tertiary qualification in metallurgy, geometallurgy or process engineering (or equivalent)
  • Practical experience in processing plant design, operations, or plant commissioning; with experience in large scale iron ore processing plants
  • Demonstrable experience in dealing with data-heavy projects, complex processes and data processing workflows. 
  • A high degree of computer literacy and the ability to use high-level languages such as Python with familiarity of version control systems, are strongly desirable.
  • Geoscientific data analytical skills and metallurgical model building experience
  • Customer-focused with ability to manage expectations, prioritise multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
