Senior Mine Geologist

Work Location: Solomon - Fortescue’s Solomon mine is located on the traditional lands of the Eastern Guruma and Yindjibarndi peoples.

Roster: 4D/3R FIFO ex Perth

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Senior Mine Geologist to join the Operations Planning team at our Solomon Operation. This permanent position is offered on a 4D/3R roster but will include some 8D/6R swings, as required. Reporting to the Superintendent Technical Services, your focus will be leading a team of high performing Mine and Project Geologists to ensure the maximum potential of the orebody is achieved.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Drive a strong focus on safety and quality data collection
  • Mentor the team in best Mine Geology practices, technically and field based
  • Monitor multiple mining hygiene factors, including but not limited to orebody recovery, contamination risk, blend performance, block and floor compliance
  • Effectively communicate geological risk across multiple planning horizons, ensuring controls are put in place to de-risk the mine plan
  • Provide guidance to the production teams on potentially fibrous materials
  • Maintain a strong departmental culture, and excellent interdepartmental relationships
  • Drive continuous improvement projects that add value and upskill team members

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Geology/Geoscience
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ Mine Geology experience within an open-pit operation
  • Solid knowledge of the Brockman Iron Formation and Channel Iron Deposits is desirable
  • Fundamental knowledge of tonnage & grade reconciliations
  • Solid working knowledge of Maptek software (Vulcan and Grade Control)
  • SQL, Snowflake and/or Tableau experience is desirable
  • Current WA C-Class manual driver’s licence
