Senior Mine Planning Engineer – Mining Simulation
Work Location: Perth - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

We are currently seeking highly motivated Senior Mine Planning Engineer – Mining Simulation to join our Decarbonisation Studies team. Reporting to the Principal Mining Engineer - Decarbonisation Studies, this role is responsible for carrying out activities to support the Decarbonisation studies within the Iron Ore Projects portfolio.
To be successful in this role candidates must have strong interpersonal skills with good understanding of both operational and planning functions within the mining industry, including the technical and support functions that support these areas. The candidate will possess strong technical skills and being able to articulate potential risks and opportunities within the planned works to the relevant stakeholders.
Key accountabilities will include:
- Kick off mining multi-haul fleet simulation to inform stakeholders of key constraints related to power demand, congestion, stationary and dynamic charging requirements
- Investigate, evaluate and lead simulation tool selection and development for multi-fleet haulage simulation for various hauling solutions
- Champion the Demand response mine planning modelling to inform mining schedules of options available to flex Fortescue operations based on energy constraint
- Conduct trade-off analysis for various haul trucks and other transport solutions by mine layouts to provide most cost and schedule effective solutions for Fortescue operations
- Liaise with technical support functions to understand risk and opportunities to the proposed operations and to include this in designs
- The role will also interact with internal operational and functional stakeholders and will be expected to effectively communicate with these teams
Qualifications and skills required:
- Relevant bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mining or similar)
- Practical and solutions focused approach to mine planning and design problems
- Previous experience of conducting open cast mining simulations to identify constraints and validate mining schedules
- Previous experience of conducting trade off studies for green transport solutions in open cast mining
- Significant experience using off the shelf open cast mining simulation tools
- Team orientation and strong ability to take initiative
- Computer proficiency (Excel, MS Office, Vulcan)
