Senior Mine Planning Engineer – Studies

Work Location: Perth - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people.

Roster: Monday to Friday

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Senior Mine Planning Engineer to join our Strategic Planning Studies team in Perth. Reporting to the Principal Engineer - Studies, this role is responsible for carrying out activities to support the approved studies within the Iron Ore Projects portfolio.

To be successful in this role candidates must have strong interpersonal skills with good understanding of both operational and planning functions within the mining industry, including the technical and support functions that support these areas. The candidate will possess strong technical skills and being able to articulate potential risks and opportunities within the planned works to the relevant stakeholders.

 Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning, execution and delivery of planned studies; objectively, efficiently and effectively by coordinating deliverables from across a broad group of technical and support teams
  • Review of previous planning work, conducting gap analysis and plan technical works
  • Pit optimisation, mine design and equipment based scheduling for specific project works
  • Cost analysis for projected operations including life cycle costing assessments
  • Liaise with technical support functions to understand risk and opportunities to the proposed operations and to include this in designs
  • The role will also interact with internal operational and functional stakeholders and will be expected to effectively communicate with these teams.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Relevant bachelor’s degree (Mining Engineering or similar)
  • Practical and solutions focused approach to engineering and design problems
  • Technically strong in mine planning and design areas
  • Knowledge in large scale open pit mining
  • Strong interpersonal skills with both operations and technical teams
  • Team orientation and strong ability to take initiative
  • Computer proficiency (Excel, MS Office, Vulcan and Alastri ATS)
  • Experience in previous mining studies or project coordination would be advantageous but not essential
