About the Role 

As a Senior Mine Surveyor, you will play a critical role in delivering accurate and reliable spatial data to support safe, efficient, and productive mining operations. This position requires strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and a proactive approach to implementing innovative surveying solutions. 

This is a FIFO role from Cairns, on a 5/2/4/3 roster with time spent between operations in Gove and Weipa. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership – Manage a team of surveyors across multiple operations.
  • Establish and maintain survey control networks, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Provide accurate survey data and mapping to support ore extraction, mine planning, and operational activities.
  • Perform stockpile surveys, volume calculations, and reconciliation to support production reporting.
  • Develop and maintain 3D mine models and assist with planned vs. actual production analysis.
  • Operate and manage advanced survey equipment including total stations, terrestrial scanners, and UAV/drone systems, while driving innovation in survey technology and methodologies.
  • Collaborate with planning, operations, and other departments to meet deadlines and provide technical guidance to junior surveyors. 

What You’ll Bring 

Essential

  • Degree in Surveying, Geomatics, or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience in open-pit mining operations.
  • Remote Pilot License (RePL) for UAV use.
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality work.
  • C Class driver’s licence.
  • Initiative and a proactive, solutions-focused mindset.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Deswik and ArcGIS platforms.
  • Experience with Trimble equipment and terrestrial scanning.
  • Eligibility or registration with the Queensland Board of Surveyors (Mining Endorsement).
  • Team Leadership experience 

About You

  • Proven experience in leading surveying activities within mining environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to pass Pre-Employment Medical, National Police Clearance, and Drug & Alcohol screening.
