Deflector Operation consists of two high-grade, narrow vein Gold/Copper mines, located 160km east of Geraldton. The ore is contained in a series of structurally complex lodes of Deflector and South West deposits. An accelerated near mine exploration program coupled with first production from the South West deposit make for a busy and exciting future for the Deflector team.

THE ROLE:

This is an exciting time to take a leadership role at the high margin, low-cost Deflector Mine, as we capitalise on the development to the new high-grade South-West lodes. Reporting to the Mining Superintendent, and taking day-to-day responsibility of managing the production, short-term scheduling, ventilation, projects and infrastructure functions, you will develop mine schedules and ensure consistent delivery of the mine plan. You will play a key part in achieving company production and safety targets, and ensuring your team’s compliance with systems and processes.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee the day-to-day production output of the Mining team
  • Effectively mentor, coach and develop Mining Engineers
  • Compile weekly schedules and drive compliance to plan
  • Oversee the development and implementation of drill and blast designs
  • Complete detailed stope notes for upcoming mining areas, and reconciliations of completed panels
  • Take on the statutory role of Alternate Underground Manager as required
  • Review and improve standard processes and systems for production, projects and ventilation
  • Work closely with the mining contractor to ensure performance is in line with the contract and mine plan
  • Identify and complete mine infrastructure and optimisation projects as required
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with the underground contractor and wider technical services team
  • Produce accurate end of month reconciliation reports
  • Provide visible safety leadership and drive productivity improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with legislative and statutory requirements, production QA/QC, as well as company safety and environmental standards

ABOUT YOU:

You are a self-motivated, proactive person who can lead cohesive teams with a high level of accountability. You will be able to anticipate business needs and react quickly to ensure production output targets are achieved and continuity of ore production is maintained. You can manage multiple demands on your time with a calm and considered manner, and have excellent interpersonal skills coupled with the ability to inspire others.

You have:

  • Bachelor Mining Engineering BEng (minimum) or equivalent
  • First Class WA Mine Manager’s certificate of competency
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising others, managing performance and instilling accountability
  • Previous experience with narrow vein underground gold mining
  • Robust understanding of underground drill and blast
  • Strong understanding of mine ventilation systems and statutory mine ventilation requirements
  • Proficient use and application of MsOffice suite, and relevant mining software including Deswik Suite and VentSim
  • "C" Class Driver’s licence and current Dangerous Goods Security Card.

This is an exciting opportunity to step into a leadership role managing a talented team of Engineers during an expansion phase of the Deflector Mine. This role is offered on an 8:6 roster FIFO from Perth.

Benefits include:

  • Short and long-term incentive scheme
  • Brand new 400m2 gym
