Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s Mine Technical Services is seeking an industry experienced, mining degree qualified Senior Mining Engineer to join their Yandicoogina operations team in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
Reporting to the Superintendent Mine Technical Services, your demonstrated capability will offer vital leadership to a team of technical professionals in the development of safe and technically sound daily to short term production plans (daily, weekly and 2-week horizon).
You will have oversight of the scheduling function (load and haul, development, drilling and b) and ensure robust production scheduling and conformance procedures are in place enabling the site to achieve daily, weekly, monthly and annual production targets (volume and quality).
This permanent position will be offered on a fly in, fly out work schedule of 8 days on site and 6 days off, out of Perth. This position will suit a Perth resident or someone willing to relocate to Perth on a permanent basis.
What you’ll bring
You will be a tertiary qualified Mining Engineer and have demonstrated experience within a large scale, open cut mining environment (preferably iron ore). Demonstrated experience in medium term mine planning as well as technical and practical drill and blast designing, and scheduling will set you up for success. Prior leadership experience, strong computer skills and working knowledge of mining and business software, such as ATS or XPAC will be highly regarded.
Using your coaching, mentoring and leadership skills, you will develop the team to be a high functioning asset and drive continuous improvement in the quality of our planning outputs. As an effective collaborator, you will engage with stakeholders from different business functions to optimise the team’s outputs.
You will be a Perth resident or someone willing to relocate to Perth on a permanent basis and you will have unrestricted and full eligibility for employment within Australia.

Located 95km north-west of Newman, Yandicoogina offers a range of fly in fly out rosters. As one of Australia's largest-producing iron ore mines; operating a fleet of autonomous trucks and drills, it generates more than 55 million tonnes of Hammersley Iron Yandi (HIY) fines each year.
