Moolarben mine is part of the Yancoal Australia group of thermal and metallurgical coal assets across NSW and Queensland. Yancoal currently employs over 3,000 people across its operations which provides fantastic opportunities at Moolarben mine for growth, learning and promotion between roles at site and between mining operations in the Yancoal Group.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities
We are seeking a Senior Mining Engineer – Long Term to join our planning team. Moolarben mine is currently in an exciting phase growing to mine 16Mt of coal per year from 2024. Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, the key role responsibilities include:
- Deliver 2 years monthly forecast, budget, LOM, rehab and provide support for final landform design. (from short term (2 weeks) to align with mid-term scheduling (12 weeks)).
- Prepare and update monthly production forecasts using SPRY and other tools.
- Work closely with mid and short team planning teams to integrate execution stage planning to achieve budget.
- Update pit and dump design based on updated geological model and geotechnical analysis.
- Prepare Reserve database for JORC report
- Prepare Reserve Reconciliation database on a 6-monthly basis
- Work closely with the Mining department, on other projects, being proactive in identifying issues, monitoring outcomes, and providing solutions.
Skills and Experience
- A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or related discipline (Civil, Geology, Survey)
- Demonstrated 5 years of experience in an open pit mining environment (Coal or other) with engineering exposure
- Experience in mine design, mid-term, and long term (1 to 5 years, LOM) scheduling, preferably using Vulcan and Spry software.
- Experience in Microsoft products (Excel spreadsheets/databases)
- Well developed verbal and written communication skills
