As a Senior Mining Engineer, you will play a vital role in providing expertise in mine engineering across planning and practices to ensure safe and economically viable mining operations. You will be responsible for tactical and strategic mine planning, design, and scheduling for surface mining operations, contributing to the optimization of production and the management of technical risks. You will provide direct leadership and mentoring to a small team of Mining Engineers and Graduates.

Key Responsibilities
This is a newly created position, reporting to the Operations Planning Superintendent, the main components of achieving the minimum required standard include:
Assisting in the development of 'control of excavation' instructions, fostering safe and economically efficient recovery of ore reserves through close collaboration with technical and operations teams.
Responsible for maintaining production monitoring and reporting systems, enabling the tracking of mining operations performance and identification of opportunities for enhancing quality and productivity
Provide direct functional leadership to team members, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Offer coaching and mentoring to new engineers and graduates, fostering their professional growth and integration into the team.
Monitoring variances against the short and medium-term mine schedule, recommending adjustments as needed, and actively participating in technical risk assessments to contribute to the development of procedures aimed at mitigating technical risks

Where you’ll be working
Our Weipa Operations includes three bauxite mines, processing facilities, ship loaders, an export wharf, two ports, power stations, a rail network and ferry terminals. Located on the Western Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland, each year the operation produces more than 35 million tons of bauxite.
Our operations are supported by a 1,900-strong workforce—including 26 per cent who are women and 25 per cent Indigenous employees. Activities include mine operations, maintenance, asset management, ports, cultural heritage management, and processing facility management.
The development of our new mine, Amrun, which was completed in 2018, will extend the life of our Weipa bauxite operations by decades to come and significantly build on our 55-year history on the Western Cape
