The Deflector Technical Team is seeking applications for a Senior Mining Engineer .

Deflector Operation consists of two high-grade, narrow vein Gold/Copper mines, located 160km east of Geraldton. The ore is contained in a series of structurally complex lodes, namely the Deflector and Deflector South West deposits.
Reporting to the Mining Superintendent, the Senior Mining Engineer is responsible for delivering safe, efficient and cost effective production designs and schedules, supervising the ventilation and mining infrastructure functions, and for providing technical guidance and assistance to the Underground Operations team. The role provides support to the Underground Manager and Mining Superintendent in overseeing and reporting on overall mine performance, as well as guiding the future direction of the operation.
This position will be offered on an 8:6 roster FIFO from Perth.
Key responsibilities of this role will include:
- Prepare safe, efficient and economic stope designs, supported by detailed stope notes.
- Ensure accurate production reconciliations are completed, summary reports are submitted to relevant stakeholders and, any improvement initiatives highlighted in the reports are promptly evaluated and, where practicable, implemented.
- Lead the development of weekly mining schedules, and track spatial and volumetric compliance to plan.
- Complete waste dump and surface stockpile designs, including tipping and dozing instructions.
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of daily, weekly and monthly reports.
- Coach, mentor, train and supervise Graduate, Production and Projects & Infrastructure Engineers, review and provide feedback on their work, and ensure consistency of output from the team.
- Supervise all ventilation activities and assist Projects & Infrastructure Engineers to ensure that all statutory requirements are met, and that the VentSim model is updated and accurate.
- Project manage certain mining infrastructure, business improvement and software implementation projects.
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to UG Operations and UG Electrical teams.
- Assist the Mining Superintendent and Underground Manager as required.
- Complete detailed incident investigations for events within area of control, and assist the wider Mining team with risk assessments, change management and ICAMs as required.
- Develop, implement and regularly review & update documented processes and systems for production, scheduling and ventilation functions.
- Regularly challenge, review and optimise mine production using knowledge gathered from previous work history, literature, conferences and peer discussions.
- Conduct regular and thorough inspections of all work areas to ensure compliance to site standards.
About You
- Bachelor of Mining Engineering or equivalent qualification
- WA First Class Mine Manager’s Certificate (or ability to obtain)
- 5+ years experience in underground, hardrock mining operations
- Previous experience in narrow vein stoping (preferred, but not essential)
- Excellent knowledge of underground drill & blast, coupled with experience in short-term (weekly) scheduling, ventilation, and underground infrastructure projects
- Mine Planning experience (preferred, but not essential).
- Basic knowledge and understanding of the WA Work Health & Safety Act (2020) and Work Health & Safety (Mines) Regulations (2022).
- Ability to use Deswik (CAD & UGDB) and VentSim software packages.
- Hold a current WA Driver’s License (manual C Class).
