Senior Mining Engineer - Belinga

Work Location: Perth - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

Roster: Monday to Friday

An exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated Senior Mining Engineer to join our Studies team as the Perth based mining specialist on the Belinga Project, reporting to the Studies Manager.

The Belinga Project is located in the Republic of Gabon, West Africa, and is potentially one of the world’s largest undeveloped, high-grade hematite deposits. Ivindo Iron, the Joint Venture between Fortescue Metals Group and the Africa Transformation and Industrialization Fund (ATIF), will evaluate the Belinga Project.

This role will support the Belinga Project Principal Mining Engineer in delivering mining strategies and innovative options, underpinned by robust mine planning. This role is responsible for providing broad technical open pit mine planning expertise and is an opportunity to develop a broad skillset whilst obtaining exposure to a wide range of other disciplines as part of the wider Studies team.

The role will require site visits at times to develop understanding of the project and to progress the study.

Role responsibilities:

  • Dilution modelling
  • Pit optimisation
  • Mine design
  • Strategic and tactical mine scheduling
  • Equipment selection, mining productivity and cost estimation

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or similar
  • French speaking advantageous
  • West African experience advantageous
  • A practical approach to engineering and design problems
  • Demonstrated open pit operational mining experience (hard rock / base metal operations)
  • Broad depth of knowledge and experience including mine geology and mineral processing
  • Computer proficiency (Excel, MS Office, Mine planning package – Vulcan, Whittle, Alastri, Minemax or similar)
