About the Role

BHP Operations Services Production team currently operates across various locations within Australia.

Operations Services Production is currently recruiting for a Senior Mining Engineer to work with our team at Nickel West, Camelot Deployment in Leinster. Reporting to our Operations Services, Superintendent Production, working in a fast-paced open cut environment, this role allows the ability to apply your experience and knowledge, and work with small and diversified team across numerous areas such as production and drill & blast.

In this role you will be responsible for support the development of the Mine Short Range Forecast and engineering plus optimising all drill & blast activities and designs to support the mine plan and Production Superintendent. Using your solid drill & blast skills and operational experience you will develop effective working relationships with the operational and planning teams and will ensure the efficient execution of short-term plans and schedules for an open cut production fleet.

The roster will be 5/2 & 4/3 FIFO.

Your key deliverables include:

  • Supporting the development of the Mine Short Range Forecast (SRF) and identifying improvement opportunities for increased performance and safety;
  • Produce, present and reconcile drill and blast designs to maintain drill productivity and desired fragmentation;
  • Optimising bench turn over with D&B, dig and dump sequencing while marinating adequate blasted stock;
  • Analysing and reporting on weekly and monthly production and D&B performance;
  • Ordering and delivery reconciliation, magazine stock control;
  • Defining performance trends and making recommendations for improvement while minimising cost through financial awareness;
  • Produce daily, weekly, monthly plans, enabling activities for the front line team;
  • Stakeholder engagement and collaboration with all work groups.

About You

We are looking for an experienced candidate that has proven resource industry and site-based experience and leadership potential. You will be innovative with a bias to action, effectively influence others and have a strong ability to lead change.

Experience with business improvement methodologies such as BHP Operating Systems, and use of data management and analysis tools such as Spotfire or Corvus, would be highly beneficial. Relevant tertiary qualifications would be highly valued.

To be successful you will demonstrate the following:

  • Overriding commitment to safety;
  • Tertiary qualification related discipline in mining industry;
  • Have strong pit design technical skills and experience (highly advantageous);
  • Have 2+ years previous production D&B design and scheduling experience in open cut mining;
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a collaborative approach to finding practical solutions;
  • Ability to engage with all levels of the business from frontline employees to senior management;
  • Ability to build and report on deployment cost, statistics and performance;
  • Proficient use of production systems, MS Office suite and mining software, including Vulcan, Trimble, Shot Plus and Deswik;
  • Ability to design all aspects of D&B to support front line teams and machine guidance systems including exposure to FMS systems.
