About the Role

We are seeking a talented Mining Professional to join our inclusive and high performing team responsible for providing directional guidance to the business through our mine planning activities, including life of mine planning, mine design, optimisation and safety improvements. Reporting to the Superintendent Mine Planning, as a Mining Engineer you will play an integral role by collecting and analysing input data to produce a safe, effective mine design for execution.

This diverse range of work will see you positively influence business decisions and will require a focus on delivering value, clear decision-making skills, technical excellence and strong collaboration skills. Role Responsibilities:  

  • Mine design and optimisation focusing on the 2-5yr and strategic horizons to support mine planning processes.
  • Utilise pit optimisation software in conjunction with economic information to produce optimised pit shells with desirable return on investment.
  • Develops detailed mining strategies that enables effective mine planning through staging and mining access concepts.
  • Develops and communicates insights that guide data driven action and decision making.
  • Identifies safety, value and continuous improvement by design.
  • Defines and structures business problems to understand root causes and implement effective countermeasures in a planned and structured way.
  • Identifies, engages and manages a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Plans, tracks the delivery of and manages a project to generate value and drive the achievement of project outcomes.
  • Knows our customer and is obsessed with meeting their needs

Location

Primary place of work will be the Perth Corporate Office, in Brookfield Place. If required to visit to our Western Australian Iron Ore operations, you will enjoy outstanding facilities at the FIFO villages including; a fully equipped gym, swimming pool, netted soccer court, tennis and basketball court, beach volleyball court and recreation room including a pool table, darts, table tennis, TV and DVD player. All rooms at the village have their own ensuite bathroom, television, refrigerator and air-conditioning. This position is offered on a FIFO 5/2 roster, however in challenging the way we work we are also offering flexible work arrangements.

About You

In addition to demonstrated ability to consolidate and analyse information, you will have the skills and knowledge to provide critical thinking and a solution-focused attitude. You will have access to technology that will enable you to work flexibly, which is key to BHP’s success in addressing the requirements of a diverse workforce. As the successful candidate, you will preferably possess the following: Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering, other related disciplines such as Engineering and Geoscience, and/or significant mine site experience.
