SENIOR MINING ENGINEER – DEVELOPMENT OPERATIONS

Cadia Valley Operations is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Employees reside in varied accommodation options in and around the district of Orange with the surrounding area’s occupied by wineries, stone fruit orchards, farming and national parks.

Employees have access to the area’s wide range of amenities, including a prominent health sector with a modern well-equipped regional hospital, excellent educational facilities, shopping, large selection of sport and recreation options, transport and other services such as childcare.

Who we’re looking for  

Reporting to the Superintendent – PC1-2, the Senior Mining Engineer – Development Operations will influence the mining team in the safe and cost-effective construction of our next cave, PC1-2. This project is unique to Cadia where we are building a new cave adjacent to our first cave, PC1. This brings a suite of unique challenges and opportunities. As an experienced and qualified mining engineer, you will be ready to take the next step in your career, helping to develop future caves at Cadia while building you skill towards an operational superintendent role.

Key responsibilities

  • Collaborating with site and key stakeholders to ensure shared outcomes are considered and adequately managed.
  • Living our Mining Project values, No short Cuts, Eyes Open, Power to stop and Positive Communication.
  • Delivering the future caves of Cadia in a safe, sustainable, cost-effective manner in line with milestone delivery dates and with an owners’ mindset
  • Provide necessary inputs and support to the scheduling and broader technical team
  • Updating and maintaining procedures and processes
  • Conduct risk assessments and assist in risk management
  • Chair the daily project performance meeting
  • Assist in co-ordinating and monitoring the performance of contractors
  • Coverage for operational Foreman or Superintendent as required.
  • Develop and implement on-going continuous improvement initiatives

Our ideal candidate will have a relevant Mining degree qualification and worked in scheduling, development engineer and ideally operational roles. It will also be considered advantageous to have a NSW Mining Engineering Manager certificate of competence, or the ability to gain one.

You will also possess the following: 

  • A strong commitment to workplace health and safety, and an ability to foster alignment and integration of key stakeholders through clear communication
  • The ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the business, most importantly ensuring clear communication between operators and technical roles.
  • A strong background in development mining
  • A strong commitment to business improvement and maximising performance through bottom-up initiatives. 

Please note: This is a 5/2 (9 hours per day) or 9 days per fortnight (10 hours per day) residential role in Orange, NSW.
