The Role
  
Our Mt Colin Copper Operation is seeking to add a Senior Mining Engineer to our Technical Services team who will be responsible for preparing and developing short to medium term mine plans for execution by the mining contractor.
  
The Senior Mining Engineer is responsible and accountable for steering the month-to-month activities of the mine by ensuring best-practice service is provided through operational excellence in the areas of safety, legislation and regulatory compliance, health, environment, quality, and cost efficiency.  The incumbent will work closely with the contractor’s Project Manager and other members of the site’s technical team (geology and survey)
  
The Senior Mining Engineer is required to lead by example in always demonstrating the Company’s commitment to safety. You must demonstrate a disciplined approach to all elements of the Company's policies, processes, and procedures.
  
The Senior Mining Engineer is required to deliver timely, clear instructions for the mining contractor. They must be able to take the life of mine plan and break that down to a well-considered rolling 13-week schedule for the contractors to follow.  Being successful in this role will be measured by the site's safety results, operational performance and feedback from peers and direct reports.
  
Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Establish and maintain weekly and monthly schedule (rolling 13 week)
  • Develop and review all mine planning approvals including but not limited to, development, rehabilitation, and production designs.
  • Create and maintain mine planning manual/guidelines.
  • Monitor the execution and effectiveness of designs and progress against the weekly and Monthly schedules – report on variances and provide remedial action if required.
  • Assist in developing cost estimate and solution strategies for site-based projects.
  • Assist in the development of the Life of Mine schedule.
  • Ensuring all personnel are trained and skilled to perform assigned tasks in a safe and efficient manner and hold the relevant licenses.
  • To act responsibly and safely, and to adhere to company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Provide effective leadership and mentoring to other Technical Services employees.
  • Foster positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including all technical team, contractors, and managers.
 
About You
  • Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or equivalent
  • Solid exposure to various stages of an underground operation, including competencies gained in ventilation, backfill, production, scheduling, and drill & blast.
  • A minimum 7 years’ experience as a mining engineer
  • Current C class drivers’ licence
  • First Aid Certificate (current)
  • Competent user of mining industry software (preferably Deswik).
  • Ability to prioritise and manage a heavy workload to provide direction to the team.
  • Ability to work autonomously and self-sufficient.
  • Effective communicator at all levels of the business
  • Strong problem solving, organisation and time management skills.
  • Ability to problem solve safely and effectively. 
The Operation
North Queensland Operations comprises the underground Mt Colin copper mine, the Barbara development project and a prospective, 967.35km2 tenement package in the Mt Isa/Cloncurry region. It was acquired by Aeris Resources in July 2022 through the acquisition of Round Oak Minerals.
  
Originally an open cut operation, Mt Colin produced its first ore from underground activities in September 2019. Ore is mined using long hole open stoping methods. Run of mine ore is crushed on site before being transported by road train to the Mount Isa processing facility north of Cloncurry for toll treatment. The copper-gold concentrate produced is smelted in Mount Isa before been railed to the Port of Townsville for export.
