We are looking for a Senior Mining Engineer Studies to contribute to, plan and execute Life of Mine Design Study work programs to support the Oyu Tolgoi Life of Mine Studies team. The role is an exciting opportunity to demonstrate your Mine Planning and Project Management skills with a diverse and global team of stakeholders.
This role is a great opportunity to progress your career, gaining experience on one of the largest block cave projects globally. Employment is residential in Brisbane with occasional travel to the Mongolian mine site.

Reporting to the Principal Mining Engineer Studies and working in an exciting environment within Life of Mine Studies team, you will be:
A significant contributor to mining studies that will shape the future of the Oyu Tolgoi Project, ranging from Order of Magnitude Studies through to Feasibility Studies
Completing mining related projects and options analysis that contribute to the Studies
Assisting a team of engineers and consultants to plan and implement safe and practical mine designs
Assisting with maintaining project schedules that are practical and achieved, considering key interactions
Work closely with other technical and engineering disciplines to ensure best for project decisions
Fostering strong stakeholder relationships both internally and externally
Contractor management using best practice project management of service providers using standard Rio Tinto work practices
Collaborating with Oyu Tolgoi Mine Planning and Design Teams to develop effective mine design and life of mine (LOM) schedules
Seeking opportunities to improve safety and implement efficiency improvement.

You’ll have:
A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
Bachelor Degree in Mining Engineering with extensive technical experience in underground mining
Experience in Mine Operations and/or Projects, Mine Technical Services and/or Studies
Experience with underground mine development processes, specifically cave development and construction
Demonstrated communication skills, including an ability to build relationships with both internal stakeholders and external consultancies
Excellent writing skills, attention to detail and an ability to problem solve
Exceptional communication skills giving clear recommendations and communications aimed at the right level

Where you’ll be working
This role is based in Brisbane and is supporting the ongoing production ramp up of the world’s newest block cave. Oyu Tolgoi LLC, Mongolia’s largest copper and gold mining company, is a strategic partnership between the Government of Mongolia and Rio Tinto. Located in the South Gobi, Oyu Tolgoi commenced shipment of product to customers in July 2013. Oyu Tolgoi is managed by Rio Tinto, which is investing global expertise and cutting-edge technology to help develop Mongolia’s mining industry and ensure Oyu Tolgoi is one of the world’s most advanced mines. For Oyu Tolgoi, nothing matters more than safety. The business operates under the principle that if a job cannot be done safely, it will not be done at all.
