Senior Native Title Advisor

Work Location: Fortescue Centre & Bennett St

  • Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people, overlooking the Derbarl Yerrigan.

Roster: Monday to Friday

Reporting to the Manager Native Title, this role will be focused on making and maintaining Agreements with local First Nations groups across Australia and New Zealand, for both Metals and Energy.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Negotiate heritage and other agreements with native title parties.
  • Provide advice to the business on native title compliance and agreement matters. 
  • Develop and implement systems so that Fortescue understands and complies with its obligations arising out of native title agreements, legislation and Government policy. 
  • Monitor that NT relationships are kept in good standing through formal and informal agreement compliance. 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Understanding of the key international and industry indigenous engagement standards as they apply to agreement-making. 

  • Understanding of the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) and relevant case law. 

  • Ability to work well in a diverse team, engage with and support others in the business to identify and manage key risks and opportunities. 

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic and complex environment. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  

  • Experience in a similar role with a resources company operating within Western Australia would be highly desirable.
