Operations near and far
The Havieron Project is the primary target of the Newcrest-operated joint venture with Greatland Gold and forms a key focus of Newcrest’s growth strategy in the Paterson Province. The Project is located in Western Australia, approximately 45km east of Newcrest’s 100%-owned Telfer mine.
The Havieron team, work in a highly collaborative environment, with interaction with early development teams, mining studies, mining and exploration teams. Our exciting Havieron Project the primary target of the Newcrest-operated farm-in and potential joint venture with Greatland Gold and forms a key focus of Newcrest’s growth strategy. The Project is located in the Paterson Province, Western Australia, approximately 45km east of Newcrest’s 100%-owned Telfer mine.
Who we’re looking for
We are seeking an accomplished and resilient Senior Occupational Hygienist to join our HSEC team onsite at our Havieron operation in Western Australia.
Reporting to the Health and Safety Lead, this challenging yet rewarding opportunity will see you utilise your expertise towards the protection and promotion of workers' health, protection of the environment and contribution to a safe and sustainable workforce. The diverse operations across site and tasks of varying complexity will offer a multitude of challenges where no two days will be the same.
Other key deliverables of the role include:
- Lead and maintain the Havieron Project Hygiene Management Plan.
- Develop and maintain site Hygiene Risk register and overseeing risk controls and corrective actions.
- Ensure relevant hygiene documentation is reviewed regularly and managed through relevant document control system.
- Manage the site Hygiene sampling requirements and relevant contractors assisting in this space.
- Oversee Hygiene exceedance investigations and ensure suitable proactive key learnings are implemented to reduce repeat events.
- Managing and updating the practical implementation of Management Plans – including: Hearing Conservation; Respiratory Protection; Potable Water.
- Verification of Critical Controls for site Major Hazards - Silica, DPM, Noise, Exposure to Hazardous Substances, Potable water and Thermal Extremes. Underground, Surface, Production risks.
- Assist with the management of potable water, including follow up of incident reporting.
To succeed in this role, you will have demonstrated experience in occupational hygiene principles, practice, and application. As a motivated leader and self-starter, you will enjoy the autonomous nature of this role and will be encouraged to learn and broaden your skillset at all times.
In addition, you will also ideally have:
- Tertiary qualification in the discipline of Occupational Hygiene
- Demonstrated experience in a similar role with specific knowledge of Occupational Hygiene management, preferably within mining environment
- Knowledge and understanding of Mines Safety Inspection Act
- Surface Ventilation Officer’s course essential
- DMIRS-approved Noise Officer Course
- Proven experience implementing, executing, and supporting site hygiene programs
- Understanding/exposure to Occupational Hygiene practices, processes, and disciplines
Please note: This is maximum-term opportunity until 30 June 2024 will work on a FIFO 2weeks on/ 2weeks off rotation, flying out of Perth.

Your ability to communicate effectively and collaborate at all levels in the organisation will work towards achievement of desired outcomes and engagement of your team and key stakeholders. In addition to your finely tuned problem-solving and decision-making abilities, you will also have:
- Certificate II in Fire Protection Inspection and Tagging
- High commitment to safety along with excellent decision making and delegation skills
- Computer literacy and understanding of SAP will be beneficial
- Current C Class drivers’ licence
