Senior Process Control Engineer – Integrated Operations

Work Location: Perth. Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

Roster: Monday to Friday. Occasional site travel may be required.

Role overview:

Based in the Fortescue Integrated Operations centre, the Senior Process Control Engineer will join a multidiscipline function who owns standards and drive performance in the fixed plant assets. Working closely with other disciplines the Process Control team leverage their knowledge and experience to develop technology solutions for high-impact opportunities that are replicable, scalable and based on an integrated view of the value chain.

The role is principally focused on step-change improvement, however, does also provide support to the operational control function in the Hive as necessary.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Using data to identify improvement opportunities and quantify their value, you will lead plant optimisation projects to improve productivity, safety and reduce risk across Mines and Port and replicate successful initiatives across different sites centrally from the operating centre.
  • Anticipate & proactively resolve potential problems within the Control Systems to ensure Zero Harm environment.
  • Collaborate with site-based teams.
  • Assist defining and implementing “just enough” process control system standardisation and governance.
  • Lead the upgrade of control systems assets where it makes sense and their life cycle.
  • Assist with projects that involve control system and operational technology such as integrate new instrument or equipment, strengthen and improve existing process control environment and network security.

Education and Experience:

  • Electrical/Electronic/Mechatronic/Computer Engineering Degree, with 5 years’ experience in the mining/material handling/processing industry
  • Experience with Emerson PLC, GE Cimplicity SCADA and Schneider Unity Pro. (Essential)
  • Experience with Industrial communication protocol – Profinet and EGD (Essential).
  • Experience designing and commissioning balance machines – Stacker, reclaimers and ship-loaders (Highly desirable).
  • Functional safety certified (Highly desirable).
  • Experience with data analysis, SQL and C# as well as VSD drives (ABB, WEG and Siemens) (Desirable)
