About the Role

As the Senior Process Safety Engineer, you will be reporting to the Superintendent Process Safety, this role provides Process Safety Management expertise within BHP’s Engineering Copper SA Team and across BHP’s Copper SA sites. 

This role will be based in our Adelaide office with occasional travel to site required. This role is a Monday to Friday roster.

You will be part of a high-performing team that partners with:

  • Copper SA operational sites to enable improved process safety management and production outcomes 
  • Copper SA Risk team to embed BHP’s risk management processes for process safety material risks
  • BHP project groups to support Safety in Design and deliver fit-for-purpose solutions for Copper SA

Your technical expertise in Process Safety Management will allow you to:

  • Support effective management and governance of the Olympic Dam Major Hazard Facility risk profile, including technical review and maintenance of the Process Hazard Analysis bowtie risk assessments
  • Implement, audit and improve the Process Safety Management elements of the Copper SA Integrated Management System, including standards, procedures and tools
  • Mentor developing Process Safety Engineers, including technical supervision

Your competence and capabilities will allow you to autonomously deliver on complex problem-solving and provision of solutions, including:

  • Supporting continuous improvement and embedment of a Process Safety-facing culture within the operation, including the development and implementation of Process Safety improvement initiatives
  • Providing day-to-day Process Safety support to operations and project teams, including Process Safety Event reviews and investigations, Management of Change reviews, Safety in Design activities, and facilitation of risk assessments and HAZOPs
  • Undertaking Field Leadership activities on a regular basis, including leading Layered Audits and Planned Task Confirmations

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in Process or Chemical Engineering (or an aligned discipline)
  • Operational engineering experience in the Chemical, Petroleum or Mining industries, preferably in Major Hazard Facilities
  • Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and maintenance of a Process Safety Management framework, investigation of process safety events, auditing and Regulator engagement
  • Demonstrated experience in applying risk management techniques and Process Safety concepts to support risk identification, prevention and mitigation, including facilitation of risk assessments and Process Hazard Analysis workshops
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to analyse a diverse range of information for troubleshooting, problem solving and informing key decision-making
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills, with experience in engaging and working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
