The Global Fixed Equipment, Power Generation and Electrical (PG&E) team is excited to announce an opportunity for a Senior Category Specialist to join our team in Perth.
In alignment with Rio Tinto’s commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, this role plays a pivotal part in supporting the procurement of renewable power generation and electrical equipment. This role requires a commercially savvy professional, adept in total cost of ownership principles and equipped with excellent communication skills.
As a part of our high-performing team, you will offer strategic commercial support to enhance global leverage across spend, develop/maintain supplier relationships, and optimize total asset lifecycle cost.
Reporting to the PG&E Manager, Fixed Equipment you will be:
- Contributing to rigorous ‘fact base’ development, based on external/internal dynamics that will inform the basis of the category strategy and sourcing programs.
- Undertaking complex sourcing activities including ownership of detailed supplier and stakeholder negotiations and the subsequent business implementation.
- Developing and maintaining robust and productive relationships with key internal stakeholders and managing cross-functional working groups to ensure that needs and requirements are fully understood.
- Extracting value from new and existing contractual/supplier relationships, acting as a positive change advocate and challenging the status-quo to enable superior business outcomes.
- Undertaking supplier relationship management activities to ensure; contractual requirements are being met, promote innovation, deliver sustainable Total Cost of Ownership & ESG benefits.
What you’ll bring
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate the following:
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your peers
- Strong commercial acumen and genuine category management experience.
- Significant tender process, negotiation and contract execution experience (for high value/complex contracts).
- Experience working with EPC/EPCMs
- Highly effective communication skills (written, verbal) and the ability to confidently conduct presentations to senior management.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and manage potential conflict in a constructive and effective manner.
- Strong project management, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Effective time management skills, the ability to balance multiple and competing priorities.
- Flexibility to work outside of traditional working hours - due to the global nature of the position.
- Previous experience in a renewable or electrical category would be advantageous but not essential.
