Senior Product Manager – Rail

Work Location: Perth – Redcliffe WA

Roster: Monday to Friday

In support of Fortescue’s strong focus on green energy and carbon neutrality targets, Green Fleet is the incubator for the development of green technologies and pioneering solutions. Based at our Hazelmere & Redcliffe R&D facilities, reporting to the Chief Product Manager - Rail, we are searching for a Senior Product Manager. This role will work with our strategic partners and other key suppliers to deliver a suite of Battery Electric Locomotive (BEL) products, the aggregation of which will realise the Infinity Train concept. The Senior Product Manager has overall accountability for leading the product delivery program from initial concept into mainstream production and sustainment over the life of the product. They will lead the definition and delivery of the locomotives and will indirectly manage the associated delivery functions to ensure FFI can bring to market industry leading rail-based products.

Key accountabilities:

  • The overall product program lead, with accountability for the delivery of program objectives
  • Program cost (CAPEX and OPEX) & budget
  • Program quality (achievement of program attributes)
  • Program timing (on-time delivery)
  • Program investment & associated returns (ROI, NPV’s)
  • Program risk management across all functions
  • Overall alignment of product definition, attributes, pricing, volume, COGS targets etc.
  • Management & tracking throughout the product lifecycle; concept through to launch
  • Cross functional issue resolution and removal of roadblocks (both internally & externally)
  • Management of trade-offs between performance, cost & product feature/content
  • Product delivery leadership, driving world-class capabilities at an accelerated pace
  • Key escalation pathway to the ELT for risks to program execution

Qualifications and skills required:

  • An experienced industry rail professional
  • Demonstrated leadership of rolling stock product delivery programs
  • 15+ years’ experience in product program management (exposure to > 2 product lifecycles)
  • Knowledge of new & emerging technologies and complex electromechanical products
  • Strong practical problem-solving skills with the knowledge and experience to mentor others
  • Demonstrated leadership in cross functional roles – programme mgt, operations
  • Advanced program management skills - demonstrated product management capability
  • Business leadership experience, driving a culture of broader business improvement
  • Technical degree preferable (STEM or Operational management)
  • Post graduate management studies would be beneficial
