A truly unique opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Mine Production Engineer to join our Robe Valley mine operations team. With cutting edge technology at your fingertips and support of the brightest minds in the industry you will guide and mentor a small technical team to ensure the safe development and delivery of mine productivity and cost improvement initiatives.

As an integral part of the operational leadership team, this role will allow you to expand your knowledge of all functions within an operational mining environment and gain invaluable experience to continue growing your operational leadership career. Reporting to the Manager Mine Operations, you will:
- Work closely with the operations team to drive improvement projects with a specific focus on safety, productivity, and asset utilisation
- Collaborate with internal partners across mining technical services, dewatering, fixed plant, and mobile equipment maintenance to achieve the mine plan
- Provide coaching, mentoring and support to the production engineers, mine planning engineers and operations teams to ensure optimisation of the mine operations
- Utilise accurate data analysis to drive cost reductions and efficiencies
- Promote a culture of safety and provide input into critical risk management and incident investigation processes
- Demonstrate the Rio Tinto values of Courage, Care, and Curiosity
What you’ll bring
You will have tertiary qualifications in mining engineering and/ or demonstrated experience in mine production, mine operations or technical mining engineering roles within a large open pit mining environment. You will be someone who thrives on a challenge, can think outside of the box, and has a good understanding of the fundamental concepts that underpin value in the mining industry. Your exceptional relationship building skills coupled with your ability to engage and collaborate effectively with a diverse range of business partners will also ensure your success in this role.
A manual ‘C’ class driver’s licence will be required and a WA Unrestricted Quarry Manager’s Certificate or the ability to obtain one will be well regarded. Prior experience with autonomous haulage systems will also be advantageous.

Where you will be working
This position is offered on a FIFO 5/2; 4/3 roster either FIFO out of Perth or the option of residential in Pannawonica.
Robe Valley operations are located in the West Pilbara and operates across 2 mine sites – Mesa A and Mesa J. Our sites operate over 20 autonomous trucks and manage mine fleet across 4 crushers managing the Robe Valley standalone products. Many team members reside in the town of Pannawonica which offers a perfect family friendly lifestyle with access to Pannawonica Primary School which is a proud STEM school and recently won the Meritorious Leadership Award in the Governor’s School STEM Awards. This extremely safe community enjoys a wide range of seasonal outdoor activities and is the closest Rio Tinto township to the coast; allowing you to find the perfect balance between leisure and work.
