Newcrest is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Project Controller to oversee and manage the project/ cost control function of the Cadia Integrated Tailings Project – a significant portfolio program of civil works execution; to safely deliver a major upgrade of the Tailings Dam for Australia’s largest gold mine at Cadia. 

You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards. The position requires a high level of expertise in cost estimation, forecasting, analysis, and reporting. 

This long-term contract position (3+ years) will be offered either as a full time 5/2 roster (Mon-Fri) to Orange NSW regional residents, or as a 12/6 roster for FIFO / DIDO workers. 

Key responsibilities include but not limited to: 

  • Project controls development, resources and outputs including scoping, estimating, scheduling, cost control, progress assessment, forecasting, change control and reporting. Develop and implement cost control procedures and processes for civil construction projects. 
  • Provide accurate quantity-based cost estimates, accruals and forecasts for projects, including the preparation of detailed cost reports and variance analyses. 
  • Work with project teams to identify cost-saving opportunities and cost optimization strategies. Provide insights by way of cost, schedule, progress, commercial and change control that informs strategic and managerial decision making throughout the project. 
  • Monitor and analyse project costs to ensure adherence to budget and forecasted costs, to recommend corrective actions as necessary. 
  • Conduct regular audits of project costs to identify potential cost overruns and take appropriate measures to mitigate risks and communicate outcome/ requirements to relevant team members. 
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients. 
  • Monitor and report on project financial performance to senior management and other stakeholders. 
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant financial and regulatory requirements. 
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders to determine project requirements, scope, costs and objectives. 
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, tracking project actual and earned value and ensuring that projects are completed within budgetary constraints. 
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential roadblocks, and develop strategies to mitigate risks and keep projects on track. 
  • Communicate project status and progress to project stakeholders, ensuring that all parties are informed and aligned throughout the project lifecycle 

The Senior Project Controller will play a critical role in ensuring the success of the Cadia Integrated tailings Project. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of project controls for large-scale projects, strong project management skills, and excellent communication and problem-solving abilities. 

You will also possess the following: 

  • Demonstrable experience in civil construction project controls, across numerous large-scale projects (infrastructure, roads construction, bulk earthworks or dam projects 
  • Relevant construction / engineering / project management qualifications (civil / mining / geotechnical) – advantageous, not essential 
  • Strong working knowledge of project estimating, cost control, schedule, progress, contracts formation, tendering, package evaluation and administration 
  • Understanding of project management, with a proven ability to develop and manage project quantities, costs and budgets. Development of project reporting tools 
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with project stakeholders and team members. 
  • Proficiency using project management software and tools, including software (Excel, SAP, PRISM) and project management dashboards. 
  • Previous stakeholder engagement with project teams, including staff and contractors. 
  • Ability to analyse data and project information, identify trends and patterns, and make data-driven decisions. Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify potential roadblocks and develop strategies to mitigate risks and keep projects on track. 
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements related to civil construction projects. 
  • Self-managed, motivated, and committed to working in a fast-paced environment.
