We are looking for a Senior Project Engineer to join our Rio Tinto Projects team at our iconic Argyle Diamond Mine in Western Australia. Since mining operations at Argyle ceased in 2020, the closure execution has commenced with the progressive removal of infrastructure and the rehabilitation of the site.
This role is a key point of contact within the owner managed integrated project team for overseeing the infrastructure and earthworks contractors carrying out the execution scope for the closure of this iconic mine, which is the first closure of its kind in Australia.
The roster for this role will initially be 8 days on 6 days off FIFO from Perth, with flexibility for some ad-hoc time in the Perth office to meet project delivery demands.
This role is a great opportunity to display your project execution skills and capability in managing the schedule and engineering scope being carried out by the appointed infrastructure and earthworks contractors. As the Senior Project Engineer reporting to the Area Manager - Execution, you will be:
- Accountable for delivery of assigned execution packages from scope development through to post construction handover;
- Oversee and monitor the performance of the contactors to ensure compliance with schedule, cost and quality requirements;
- Engaging with the contractors to ensure infrastructure and earthworks activities are performed safely and in accordance with Rio Tinto standards and procedures;
- Provide technical support and direction on engineering matters;
- Undertake field and engineering documentation reviews to ensure compliance with Rio Tinto project engineering guidance and standards;
- Participate in design and constructability reviews to identify opportunities to improve execution and/or operations of the facilities;
- Monitor and expedite procurement activities for contractor engagement, construction materials and equipment contracts;
- Prepare progress reports covering critical issues and performance against cost and schedule baselines;
- Maintain relationships with key stakeholders to drive a culture of collaboration, participation and improvement; and
- Coordinate with the closure team to address interface issues and support the closure activities required to transition to the monitoring & maintenance phase.
What you will bring
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Degree qualified engineer - civil background desirable
- Construction projects experience including management of contractors
- Managed construction of non-process infrastructure and civil/earthworks
- Able to effectively navigate complex situations and change
- Work within a team to foster a positive and inclusive environment
- Experience in infrastructure demolition is also desirable
