We are looking for a Senior Project Engineer – Renewables To provide the Owners’ Team technical direction, support and supervision of the EPCM / EPC Company during the sequential Renewable Energy project phases and is responsible for ensuring that RTIO’s safety, scope, functional requirements, technical design, and quality standards are satisfied.

Rio Tinto Projects Business Unit is responsible for delivering capital projects, as required by the Product Group to deliver the strategic business objectives. Rio Tinto Projects comprises Studies, Projects and Approvals Divisions, who together take the projects from conceptual studies, through Order of Magnitude , Pre-Feasibility Study, Feasibility Study and construction phases, and then hand over to Operations.

This position is a great opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic project professional to extend their expertise and apply their project knowledge in renewables projects .

Reporting to the Project Manager Pilbara Renewables and working in a collaborative community, you will be:

  • Supervise and direct the EPCM /EPC as required to ensure that the renewable energy (RE) engineering design work and related deliverables meet the required technical standards, functional objectives, budget constraints and project deadlines
  • Monitor engineering progress on a value earned basis against budgeted hours and control schedule timelines. Confirm appropriate actions or mitigating responses are put in place promptly by the EPCM/EPC, such that the project objectives for HSE, cost and schedule are not put at risk.
  • Liaise with EPCM/EPC key discipline leads during all phases of the engineering work to ensure that engineering development is consistent with decisions taken to meet the Owner’s requirements.
  • Review Project Execution Plans and supporting management plans and monitor compliance
  • Monitor progress of the project engineering execution plan to confirm compliance with project schedule and identified key milestones.
  • Review the Lean in Construction metric and ensure effective use of the process
  • Review and comment on project schedules
  • Monitor RE engineering productivity and effectiveness

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Chartered Electrical Engineer by Engineers Australia, Project Management – essential
  • Significant experience in renewable energy (RE) projects
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering - essential
  • Project management experience within renewable energy projects
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive and trusting relationships across a wide range of stakeholders
  • A current ‘C’ class driver’s licence
